The Community Events and Casino Corner portions of this newsletter can be heard three times daily Monday to Sunday on Rez Radio, at 7:25 a.m., 12:25 p.m. (in Pala Today Monday to Friday), and at 5:25 p.m. as the “Pala Community Calendar.”

Community Calendar

Antonio Garra Day is Saturday, March 16 at Old Town San Diego State Historic Park.  They day begins with a procession from Immaculate Conception Church to El Campo Santa Cemetery where Garra was buried.  From there a horse drawn wagon will bring people to the First San Diego Courthouse Museum in Old Town for bird songs, speeches and testimonies from noon to 4p.  Rez Radio will broadcast live from the event.  For details, call Eric at 760 522 0615.

Easter on the Farm is Saturday, March 23 at Bates Nut Farm in Valley Center from 9:30a to 1:30p.  Go to www.BatesNutFarm.biz for more information.

There’s a baseball cap beading class Tuesday, March 26 from 10a to 2p at Pala Old Tribal Hall.  All materials will be provided.  And dress making classes Thursday and Friday, March 28 & 29 from 10a to 4p, also at Pala Old Tribal Hall.  Limited space, so reserve yours by calling the Cupa Cultural Center at 760 891 3590.

The next Pala Pop-Up Shop is Friday, March 29 from noon to 6p at Pala Park in front of the Mission and Pala Youth Center.  Contact April for details – 760 638 6462.

The annual Pala Easter Egg Hunt is Saturday, March 30 at noon at Jim Banks Sports Park in the Pala Admin complex.

Dinner & Brew in the Valley is at Rincon Brewery Friday March 29 from 6 to 11p.  Proceeds go to Native Youth Foundation, free women’s self-defense seminars, and California Indigenous Athletes girls’ football program.  For more information, call Keith at 442 341 9292

The Inter-Tribal Long-Term Recovery Foundation’s annual Putt Fore Preparedness golf tournament is Thursday, April 11 at Pala Mesa Golf Club.  Proceeds help American Indian people and Tribal Nations affected by wildfires and other disasters.  Information and registration link.

The Pauma Tribal Farms 5K Run & Gathering is Saturday, April 20.  Save the date.  More details to follow.

OneSight provides free eye exams and prescription glasses for all students and adults at its eye clinic at Pala Admin Building April 22-26.  For information on how to register, call Chris at 760 891 3564.

The Weekly Beading Club meets every Friday afternoon at the Cupa Cultural Center.  Supplies are provided.  Space is limited.  Call 760 891 3590 to sign up.

The American Indians Veterans Association Meetings are the first Friday of each month at 10a in the multi-purpose room at IHC Rincon.  Call Tim Ravago for details at 760 644 1320.

Pala Cultural Resources Committee monthly meetings are open to all Pala tribal members.  Meetings are the third Thursday of each month at 5p in the Pala Administration Building. www.Palatribe.com/residents 

The Pala Tobacco Program invites Pala residents over the age of 18 years to take the Voluntary Smoke-free Homes Pledge.  By signing this pledge, residents commit to protecting their families from the dangers of second and thirdhand smoke.  Participants receive gift cards in exchange for their time. Pala Fire Department has a “You Are Not Alone” program for the benefit of seniors, those who live alone and generally anyone who is isolated.  Volunteers make phone calls to people who sign up to be checked on.  You can also suggest someone who ought to be signed up, but may not know about YANA.  It’s for everyone in Pala.  Not just tribal members.  To volunteer, sign up or find out more about Pala’s You Are Not Alone program, email yana@palatribe.com or call Pala Fire Department at 760 742 1632.

The Pala Language Revitalization Program offers free online classes every Monday.  The Pala Learning Center’s GED prep, literacy classes, K-12 and college tutoring are all available remotely via Zoom every weekday from 8a to 4:30p.  Printed packets of studies in more than a dozen classes for students of the Bonsall school district who don’t have internet access are available every other Tuesday.  For more information on all of these programs, call the Pala Learning Center at 760 891 3538.
