Pala Today News – 10/28/19

Written by on October 28, 2019

The following items are part of the award-winning “Pala Today” newscast heard this day at noon on PALA REZ RADIO™ 91.3 FM in Pala.

LOCAL AND REGIONAL HEADLINES

Winds are picking up.  A Red Flag Fire Warning and High Wind Watch go into effect tomorrow night through Thursday.  Highest winds of the fire season so far are predicted.  Temperatures will only be slightly above normal.  The full forecast is coming up.  (below)

Fires up north in Sonoma County continue to consume acreage and destroy dozens of homes.  Major power shutoffs are in effect there.  Less so in Socal.  But shutoffs are on the way.  The Getty Fire in west LA had destroyed several expensive homes.  With winds variable, air quality in the LA basin is especially bad.  The Tick Fire continues to burn in Santa Clarita.

In this declared statewide emergency, the California Attorney General is warning retailers and others against price gouging.

A brush fire yesterday afternoon in Oceanside forced the evacuation of homes in the Capistrano neighborhood.  Foreward progress was halted by about 3:45p.  No injuries and no structural damage.

It’s been determined that last week’s Sawday Fire in Ramona started in a parked travel trailer.  It burned almost 100 acres.

The southbound 215 in Murrieta was closed during this morning’s commute due to a fatal accident involving at least three vehicles.  It happened just before 6a near Los Alamos.

SPORTS

In the World Series – The Houston Astros have taken a 3 games to 2 lead with yesterday’s 7-1 win in Washington.  If it had been a closer game, a clearly blown strike call might have made a difference.  Coming early in the game, it still may have had an effect.  An article by ESPN cites this incident as a good reason to bring in robot umpires.  https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/27947161/how-one-blown-strike-call-game-5-illustrates-mlb-need-robot-umps

Game 6 is tomorrow at 4:30p from Houston.

BUSINE$$

As of midday trading on Wall Street, stocks finished the day up across the board.  Gold was down slightly. Oil almost flat.
